Busselton Ironman December
5th 2009
On
what can only be described as a torrid day in the sun Fremantle
Triathlon Club had twenty members taking part in the Busseleton
IM WA. There were a number of particularly impressive performances.
Notably, Brad Wall placed 1st in the 18 - 24 years male category
in a time of 9 hours 17 minutes. Caitlin Bridgland 3rd in the 18
- 24 years female and 5th place to Kate Bevilaqua (Pro Women), June
Ward (45 - 49 years), Michael McCormick (50 - 54 years), Phillippa
Hamilton (18 - 24 years).

FTC volunteer at IM
Thanks
to the encouragement of Clayton Gunning a number of FTC members
took on the challenge of helping out at Busso this year. We were
assigned to a bike aid-station 10 km out of town. Despite the heat
(there was limited shade) and the frantic pace of the 'job' it was
an amazing experience. It was my first time volunteering at an ironman
and my first ever on a bike aid-station. To coordinate the handing
of bottles to athletes not interested in slowing down took a bit
of practice! Despite this most of the competitors were incredibly
thankful to the volunteers. It was a tiring day but well worth the
effort. I would recommend the experience to any of you. C.H.

Fremantle Triathlon
Club was well represented at the LD World Champs held in Perth yesterday.
We had nine men and ten women across all ages. Congratulations to
all of you on what turned out to be a very tough day. Of the 19
athletes we had three podium finishes: Caitlin Bridgland, 2nd 20
- 24 years, Brynt McSwain also 2nd in the 25 - 29 year age group
and Janine Willis (representing Canada) 2nd in the 35 - 39 year
group. In addition, there were three more top ten finishes. Sally
Scaffidi a bit unlucky to miss out on the medals by coming 4th in
the 40 -44 year group. Tim Howley 6th in 45 - 49 year age group
and Julia Marr 7th in the 30 to 34 year group.
All results for our members have been summarized on this
spreadsheet.

BBQs.

We
want to know if people have an important race coming up so that
we can let everyone know how you’ve gone. It’s
hard to keep track of everyone’s races in Perth, interstate
and overseas. Please email us to let us know if you have
something coming up. |
